An exciter designed for the onboard power generator of the Vosslow DE18 locomotive with a three-phase excitation winding.
This device consists of a controlled 3-phase frequency converter that is supplied directly from the starter battery. There are two operating modes for the machine: when motoring, the excitation is necessary starting the diesel generator, and when generating, the DC-link voltage of the downstream converter is controlled.
Characteristics
Rated voltage: 110 V DC … 180 V DC |
Over-voltage turn off: 188 V DC |
CAN service and diagnostics interface |
Operation
The main locomotive computer controls the exciter via the CAN bus. The voltage control function is based on a speed-voltage curve saved in controller memory.
